Another national championship came to Southern California in November. The U.S. Senior, limited to players over the age of 50, attracted 87 players to the beautiful seaside resort of Ventura Beach from Novmbeer 6 through 11. Topping the field, which included 18 masters, were local stars Stephen Jones (winner on tiebreak) and IM Anthony Saidy, with 5½-½. Boris Baczynskyj took clear third at 5-1. The tournament was organized by Mike Carr and Dr. Joseph Wagner, with the help of may generous donors. John Hillery directed.
